Tennessee: The Smoky Mountains + Gatlinburg

…Let’s get away for a while…

I brought in the New Year in Tennessee doing things I’ve never done before. Last year, Edgar and I drove through the Smoky Mountains as well as Gatlinburg and spent about three hours there. The short amount of time left me longing to see what else the mountains and the town had to offer. It’s safe to say that I love Gatlinburg, Tennessee and cannot wait to go back next year in 2018.

So, here’s a short list of things to do if you find yourself in this little town:

1. Go for a hike in the Smoky Mountains and enjoy the breathtaking view. This hike (Laurel Falls Trail) was about three miles and at the very end you get a nice little perk- a beautiful waterfall.

2. Go skiing at Ober Gatlingburg. I’ve been dying to go skiing for years and well, it was harder than I thought. I fell about 20 times, but all in all, it was such a fun experience. The park opens at 9am and the lines get longer as the day goes on so, be sure to wake up bright and early. There are plenty of other things to do there such as ice skating, ride the ski mountain coaster (this may seem like a kiddie ride, but you’ll definitely have whip lash by the end), snow tubing (this is the only attraction that takes reservations and be sure to make one because the spots fill up fast!), etc.

3. Go try some whiskey at Ole Smoky. You get 15 little shots of different types of whiskey for $10. Yep, $10. My favorite was the Cookies & Creme Whiskey! So delicious. You’ll only ever find this whiskey in Tennessee so, don’t miss out on it.

4. Go eat some massive pancakes at Crockett’s Breakfast Camp. I was intrigued to go here when I saw photos of the pancakes on Yelp. Like where on earth are you going to find pancakes like this other than in Gatlinberg?! The restaurant itself is at the top of my list for cutest eateries I’ve been right below Loveless Cafe, of course, located in Nashville.

If you’ve visited the Smoky Mountains before or Gatlinburg, then let me know what YOUR favorite spots are and I’ll be sure to check them out in 2018.
